Is your dog misbehaving? Follow these tips

Whether you want to get a dog or if you already have one, you’re probably aware of the fact that it takes some work to care for a dog. You probably don’t innately know the best way to care for your canine companion. Use the following guide to find some great tips on taking good care of dogs.

Groom your dog regularly. A dog requires constant grooming to keep his coat in tip top condition. Make sure that your dog is completely relaxed before you start the grooming session; this is especially important if he is excitable. Keep the session quite short (5 to 10 minutes at most) until he is comfortable with the idea of being groomed. Most importantly – be sure to praise him and offer a treat after a successful grooming session!

Take care to keep your dog cool while traveling during the summer by car. Even with your air-conditioning on, the dog may become over-heated in his pet carrier. A simple and low-cost countermeasure is freezing a few gallon jugs of water and placing them near him where he can curl up and cool off.

Your dog has teeth just like you, so it makes sense that he needs proper dental care. Invest in a dog toothbrush and brush his teeth often. Simply allowing the vet to do it at his regular checkups is not enough. You can also purchase treats that are specifically meant to help with your pet’s teeth.

Avoid giving your pup table scraps. If you feed from the table, he’ll become a beggar and stop eating his own food. Your dog may develop digestive problems and become fat if you feed it table scraps. Insist that your dog wait away from the table during family meals to avoid temptation on his part – and yours.

If your dog is still getting used to the grooming process, only work with him or her in short bursts. Groom for about five minutes and then stop and move on to another activity. Eventually, start adding on two or three minutes to your total grooming time until your pet is able to handle a full session.

When clipping a puppy’s toenails, start slow. Introduce your little dog to them before you begin cutting. You may only be able to get a single nail done during a sitting. It could take some time for puppy to become comfortable with the idea of nail clipping, but soon, you will be able to get through it all at once.

Always buy high quality food for your best friend. It is vital to give your dog the best quality food. This may mean higher costs for a better brand, but your dog will get great nutrition from proper sources.

Don’t assume your toy-sized dog’s bite isn’t dangerous, just because he’s little. A lot of owners brush-off training, thinking that the smaller breed dog can get away with a little bad behavior and this isn’t true. As a responsible canine master, you’ve got to make certain your dog does not pose a threat to anyone by having him well trained.

It should be easy to care for your dog with the advice found above. Your pet will appreciate you being loving and patient. Do some more research and be sure that you enjoy your furry friend’s company!
